MegaFood Partners with Organic Valley
MegaFood is very proud to announce it has partnered with Organic Valley as a Farm Fresh Partner to buy organic broccoli, cabbage and carrots to craft our FoodState concentrates!! Organic Valley is the largest cooperative of organic farmers in the United States, based out of LaFarge, Wisconsin. What began as a group of family farms selling their produce soon expanded into the production and local distribution of vegetables, and dairy products. Today, Organic Valley is the nation's largest, independent cooperative of organic family farmers and one of the largest producers and distributors of organic produce (in season), dairy, soy, and eggs. Organic Valley comprises 1332 farmer-owners located in 32 states and one Canadian province that specialize in sustainable, organic agriculture practices. The cooperative network of over 1,300 family farms that now make up Organic Valley's production base are located throughout the midwest and the continental United States, and range from farms supported by multiple families to small, family owned-and-operated farms. The mission of Organic Valley is to save family farming culture through organic farming and distribute the highest quality organic food in the nation.
Family Farm Produce
For the crops Family Farm Produce grows for Organic Valley—squash, potatoes, onions, eggplant, cabbage and much more—the family recently built a new facility that will make preparing their crops for shipping a little more efficient. The huge bins full of produce picked from the fields are brought by wagon to the building's loading dock where the wagons are backed up and off-loaded. Inside, they are washed and re-packed and sent back to the dock which is also accessible by fuel powered vehicles that come to take the produce to Organic Valley's distribution center in Cashton, Wisconsin. New Forest Farm
An Organic Valley produce grower for twelve years, Mark Shepard observes that the farmer-owned cooperative conducts its business-both internally and externally-in a way that squares with his own personal ethics and beliefs. "We nurture the earth with organic agriculture and humane treatment of animals. I can't think of a better way for us to live, to market our products, and to relate to each other as human beings. Organic Valley is a band of rather independent, different thinkers who are essentially interdependent." READ MORE
Second Generation Organic
Like a lot of farmers, Josh and Noah of Second Generation Organic were raised on a farm. “We were out milking before school, and then we’d be milking again when we got home from school,” Josh remembers. Unlike most second-generation farmers, however, Josh and Noah grew up on an organic farm. Their father, Dave, was one of the founding farmers of the Organic Valley co-op, and still runs the family dairy farm on a nearby ridge. It’s been 30 years since the first handful of farms became certified by an organic organization. Since then, there’s been an explosion in demand for foods that are grown in a healthy, sustainable manner, without chemicals, hormones, or genetically modified seeds. Thousands of farmers across the nation have transitioned to organics to meet this growing demand. READ MORE
