A strong inner Warrior is essential for your body to do the work of self preservation. In many regards a healthy immune system does the warrior work of the physiology by keeping germs at bay. We asked Los Angeles based yoga instructur, Marlize Joubert, to bring us into warrior pose and here is what she had to say:
When we are in Warrior pose, we must feel like a warrior in our body, mind and soul. A strong and powerful asana, it will strengther and empower you when you feel yourself to be at one with the energy that this pose represents.
Stand with your legs wide apart, as wide as when you spread your arms wide, your hands will be under your feet. Turn your right foot out to the side wall, turn your back foot in towards the front 45 degrees. Align your front heel with your back arch. Take an inhale and extend your arms wide, and on the exhale bend your right knee over your second toe. Draw the weight in your front heel and press the outer edge of your back foot down. Extend through your fingers, as you relax your shoulders down your back.
Now you have arrived. Take away the doing of the pose, and just BE in the pose. Feel the breath, breathe in wake up the Warrior that lies dormant inside you. Take 15 breaths and switch sides.
It strengthens your legs, open your hip, strengthen your shoulders, and strengthen your mind if holding longer than you'd like. :)
