When was the last time that you thought about the cells that make up your body? High school biology class, maybe? When we talk about health and wellness, we often talk about the body as a whole (optimal health!) or a particular system (like our adrenals and stress response), but at the heart of each of these systems are the basic building blocks of life - our cells.
Each organ and system in the body is made up of millions upon millions of cells, and each of these cells - just like us - need fuel to create energy to perform their functions. Without adequate food and thus adequate energy, our cells struggle to do their very important work and can become stressed.
B vitamins play an important role in this process of cellular energy production. In fact, each member of the B vitamin family plays their own unique part in ensuring our cells have the fuel that they need. For this reason, we often see B vitamins referred to as “energy vitamins” or “energy supplements,” which is a bit of a misnomer - they do not provide the stimulant effect associated with energy-enhancers like caffeine, but instead work on the cellular level to help ensure each cell of the body is able to produce energy and keep us functioning and feeling our best.
Next time you’re looking for a little energy support, consider your cells, and reach for a B vitamin complex!
