MANCHESTER, N.H. (May 29, 2020) - MegaFood®, maker of premium supplements with real food from trusted farm partners, plus added nutrients, today announced the company has donated $10,000 to the New Hampshire Food Bank, a program of Catholic Charities NH, to support growing demand for meals from food insecure families amid the current global health crisis. One of the many unforeseen effects of the novel Coronavirus is the widespread increase in the number of new individuals – both adults and children – experiencing or at heightened risk of food insecurity. In New Hampshire, this number has increased dramatically with over 144,000 residents now unemployed. The funding provided by MegaFood will help the nonprofit organization continue to source and provide healthy foods for local families in need.

“We are seeing an overall increase in partner agency orders, including from those that have not needed our resources in some time who are reaching out for food,” said Eileen Liponis, executive director, New Hampshire Food Bank. “With many people now out of work, coupled with families who typically depend on free and reduced school meals, we know the need has risen fast and we are taking every possible step to ensure we can provide food to those in need.”

The New Hampshire Food Bank distributes nutritious food to more than 425 partner agencies who, in turn, disseminate the meals to food pantries, homeless shelters, soup kitchens, children’s programs, senior centers and more. As the only food bank in the state, the non-profit receives no federal or state funding for food distribution, and, as a result of a 50% increase in demand from partner agencies compared to last year, must now purchase food to continue supporting local families in need. The organization’s 128% increase in food purchasing is largely due to the impacts of COVID-19.

"Our effort to ensure everyone is truly nourished is an integral part of our mission at MegaFood and we are strongly committed to supporting individuals and families in New Hampshire," said Andy Dahlen, MegaFood CEO. "The impact of the global pandemic has been heartbreaking and we applaud the New Hampshire Food Bank for continuing to provide local residents the nourishment they need to endure this challenging time."

For every dollar donated, the New Hampshire Food Bank can provide approximately 2 meals. The donation made by MegaFood will be utilized for partner agency orders as well as the New Hampshire Food Bank’s weekly Mobile Food Pantry program in communities across the state that have seen tremendous layoffs and furloughs.
